How To Convert Fuel Economy Calculator

Fuel economy units are not all the same kind of number. Most measure distance per unit of fuel, but litres per 100 kilometres measures fuel per unit of distance, so the relationship is inverted.

Converted value

Kilometres per litre
0.4251437074
Litres per 100 km

Values update as you type. This calculator covers the single scenario its formula assumes — see Common Mistakes for what it leaves out.

The formula this calculator uses

Result = value x from-factor / to-factor

value
Amount you start with
from
Source unit size in km per litre
to
Target unit size in km per litre

How to check the result by hand

  1. 1

    Enter the amount

Type the fuel economy value you want to convert.

  2. 2

    Pick the source unit

Choose the unit the value is currently in, such as MPG (US).

  3. 3

    Pick the target unit

Choose the unit you want, such as km per litre.

  4. 4

    Multiply by the source factor

The value is expressed in kilometres per litre using the source unit's size.

  5. 5

    Divide by the target factor

Converting from the base kilometres per litre into the target unit gives the answer.
