Values update as you type. This calculator covers the single scenario its formula assumes — see Common Mistakes for what it leaves out.

The formula this calculator uses

NPS = % promoters - % detractors

Promoters
Respondents scoring 9 or 10
Passives
Respondents scoring 7 or 8
Detractors
Respondents scoring 0 to 6

How to check the result by hand

  1. 1

    Count each group

Sort responses into promoters (9 or 10), passives (7 or 8) and detractors (0 to 6).

  2. 2

    Total the responses

Add the three groups together. Passives stay in the total even though they do not move the score.

  3. 3

    Find the promoter share

Divide the promoter count by the total and multiply by one hundred.

  4. 4

    Find the detractor share

Divide the detractor count by the total and multiply by one hundred.

  5. 5

    Subtract to get the score

Take the detractor share away from the promoter share. The result runs from minus one hundred to plus one hundred.
