Time Card Hours Calculator
A time card records the hours worked on each day of a week. Turning those hours into pay means adding them up, splitting the total into regular and overtime hours at the forty-hour threshold, and multiplying each group by the right rate.

Values update as you type. This calculator covers the single scenario its formula assumes — see Common Mistakes for what it leaves out.
The formula this calculator uses
Gross pay = regular hours x rate + overtime hours x rate x 1.5
- Regular hours
- Hours up to forty in the week
- Overtime hours
- Hours above forty in the week
- Rate
- Hourly pay rate
How to check the result by hand
- 1
Total the daily hours
Add Monday through Sunday to get the hours worked in the week. Convert any minutes to decimals first.
- 2
Split at forty hours
The first forty hours are regular and anything above them is overtime. The split happens on the weekly total, not on each day.
- 3
Apply the rates
Multiply regular hours by the rate and overtime hours by one and a half times the rate.
- 4
Add the two parts
Regular pay plus overtime pay is the gross pay for one week.
- 5
Multiply by the weeks in the period
Multiply the weekly figure by the number of weeks in the pay period to get the period total.
