How to use the tip split calculator

  1. Enter the bill amount before tip.
  2. Enter the tip percentage you want to leave.
  3. Enter the number of people splitting the bill.
  4. Read the result. The tip, total and each person's share update as you type.

Worked example

A $120 bill with a 15% tip is $138 total (a $18 tip). Split four ways, each person pays $34.50, of which $4.50 is tip.

The math

tip = bill x tip% / 100

total = bill + tip

per person = total / people

Round up to whole currency if you are settling in cash, or keep the decimals for a card split.

Frequently asked questions

How much should I tip?

It depends on the country and service. In the US 15-20% is standard for restaurants; many other countries tip far less or round up. Match local custom.

Does this split the tip too?

Yes. The per-person amount includes both the bill share and the tip share, and the calculator also shows the tip per person separately.

What if people ordered different amounts?

This calculator splits the whole bill evenly. For unequal splits, divide each person's items first, then add their share of the tip.

Can I split without a tip?

Yes. Set the tip percentage to 0 and the calculator simply divides the bill by the number of people.

Why does my card split differ from cash?

Cards keep exact decimals; cash rounds to coins. The per-person figure here is exact, so round up only when paying with cash.
