How to use the hourly to salary calculator

  1. Enter your Hourly wage — the amount you earn before tax for one hour of work.
  2. Enter your Hours per week — a typical week, including any regular overtime.
  3. Enter your Weeks per year — 52 if you work year-round, fewer if you take unpaid time off.
  4. Read the result. Your weekly, monthly and annual gross pay all update as you type.

Worked example

At $25/hour, 40 hours/week and 52 weeks/year you work 2,080 hours a year and earn a gross salary of $52,000. That is about $4,333 a month before tax, or $1,000 a week.

The formula

Annual = Hourly wage × Hours/week × Weeks/year

Monthly = Annual ÷ 12 · Weekly = Annual ÷ 52

The example above is 25 × 40 × 52 = 52,000. The 2,080-hour figure is the standard US full-time baseline and is what many job postings and benefits calculations assume.

What this number does and does not include

This is gross pay — the amount before tax, insurance and retirement contributions come out. Your take-home (net) pay will be lower, and the gap varies a lot by location and income. Two things to watch:

  • Unpaid breaks and downtime. If you are paid only for hours you actually work, count the real figure, not the time you spend on site.
  • Overtime. Overtime is usually paid at 1.5×. If your week mixes regular and overtime hours, the simple hourly × hours estimate understates busy weeks and overstates quiet ones.

Why weeks per year matters

Two weeks of unpaid vacation drops you from 52 to 50 weeks and cuts roughly 3.8% off your annual total. If you are comparing a salary offer to an hourly contract, make sure both use the same weeks-per-year basis before you decide which pays more.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert hourly pay to annual salary?

Multiply your hourly wage by the hours you work each week, then by the weeks you work each year. At $25/hour, 40 hours/week and 52 weeks/year that is $52,000 a year gross.

Is the result gross or net pay?

It is gross pay — before tax, insurance and retirement deductions. Your actual take-home will be lower and depends on your location and income.

What if I get overtime?

Overtime is usually 1.5× your rate. If your schedule mixes regular and overtime hours, the flat hourly × hours estimate will be approximate — enter the typical blended week.

How many weeks per year should I use?

Use 52 if you work year-round with paid holidays, or fewer if you take unpaid time off. Two unpaid weeks drops annual pay by about 3.8%.

How many hours is full-time per year?

40 hours/week × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours a year, the standard US full-time baseline used by many employers and benefits calculations.
